Welcome to Bath, Somerset and Wiltshire Aquatic Harmony
Hello I’m Lorna, and I’d like to share my journey in water with you.
I’ve always felt at home in water – I took swimming lessons from a young age and regularly went swimming with family and friends, both at home and when on holiday. Fast forward a few years, when I became pregnant with my son. On the whole I had a wonderful and enjoyable pregnancy but suffered from pelvic girdle pain from relatively early on. A visit to the physiotherapist resulted in a recommendation to try both yoga and aqua yoga, to strengthen my body.
I attended the Swindon Aquatic Harmony Aqua Natal classes with Clare for the whole of my pregnancy. I enjoyed the weightless feeling the water provided, and the pelvic girdle pain all but disappeared within weeks. It felt so wonderful bonding with my baby this way that I decided on a waterbirth, and had my son in the warm comfort of a birthing pool a few days after my 37th week of pregnancy.
As soon as my son was old enough I took him to mother and baby swimming lessons to carry on that wonderful bonding experience. He is now at his happiest when he’s bobbing around in the pool! It was at this point I could no longer see myself returning to my previous career, which involved long periods away from home, and I wanted to help other mothers have the same wonderful experience of pregnancy and birth that I had felt.
Aqua Yoga was pioneered by the internationally acclaimed Birthlight charity, and features fluid and flowing adaptations of classic yoga moves, along with relaxation and breathing. Add to this the buoyant properties of water, it allows a much deeper stretch and relaxation than is possible on land. Aqua Yoga prepares the mother’s body for birth (especially birth in water), assists in promoting positive emotions and re-enforces the natural bond between a mother and her baby. It can also assist in the treatment of common ailments of pregnancy. After giving birth, Aqua Yoga can help realign the body and strengthen the abdomen, spine and pelvic muscles.
Aqua yoga is accessible to all levels of fitness and swimming ability and can be enjoyed from early pregnancy up to 40+ weeks, and from 6 weeks postnatally – you do not need to have practised yoga previously or be able to swim. Our classes are carried out in warm, relaxing pools which also have free parking available, and are close to local amenities should you wish to meet for coffee after class!
We look forward to meeting you and your little ones soon!

Postnatal and Baby Swim Combined Classes running in this area
Our classes give mums the opportunity to carry out gentle but effective post natal exercises where you are supported by the water. The exercises we use assist the pelvic floor, tummy, back and excremities to tone and become strong again after the birth of your baby. Exercising in the water insures your body will work harder 12 times in fact as you are working against and with the water making each movement harder than if you were on dry land. We use woggles and floats and also combine yoga stretches, movements and breathing to achieve an effective workout for your postnatal body. This is a fantastic class to join with fellow new mummies or to meet new mummies, you can join as early as 8 weeks (after your check up with your doctor).
